Silicon Calcium(CaSi)

A binary alloy composed of silicon and calcium, belonging to the category of ferroalloys. Its main components are silicon and calcium, but also contains different amounts of iron, aluminium, carbon, sulphur and phosphorus and other impurities. It is used in the iron and steel industry as calcium additive, deoxidiser, desulphuriser and denaturant for non-metallic inclusions. It is used as gestation agent and denaturant in cast iron industry.

Since calcium has strong affinity with oxygen, sulphur, hydrogen, nitrogen and carbon in the steel liquid, calcium-silicon alloy is mainly used for deoxidation, degassing and fixing sulphur in the steel liquid. Calcium silicate produces a strong exothermic effect when it is added to the steel liquid. Calcium becomes calcium vapour in the liquid steel, which produces stirring effect on the liquid steel and is beneficial to the floating of non-metallic inclusions. Calcium-silicon alloy deoxidation, resulting in larger particles and easy to float non-metallic inclusions, but also to change the shape and nature of non-metallic inclusions. Therefore, calcium-silicon alloy for the production of clean steel, oxygen, sulfur content of low quality steel, as well as oxygen, sulfur content of special performance steel. The addition of calcium silicate alloy can eliminate the use of aluminium as the final deoxidizer of steel in the ladle water mouth of the tumor, and continuous casting of steel | ironmaking intermediate tank water mouth clogging and other issues. In the steel furnace refining technology, with calcium silicate powder or core line for deoxidation, desulphurisation, so that the oxygen and sulphur content in the steel to a very low level; but also control the form of sulphide in the steel, while improving the utilisation rate of calcium. In the production of cast iron, calcium-silicon alloy in addition to deoxidation and purification, but also play a role in gestation, helping to form fine-grained or spherical graphite; so that the grey cast iron graphite distribution is uniform, reduce the tendency of white mouth; and can increase the silicon, desulphurisation, to improve the quality of cast iron.
